Rosier Family History

The Rosier family can trace its roots back to medieval France, specifically the area occupied by the city of Angers, formerly the historical province of Anjou. It should be noted, however, that the family was not always magical--they are actually far younger than the Blacks and Malfoys, chronologically speaking. In fact, during those times, the Rosier family was originally known as the Bontecou family and were considered to be skilled artisans and florists, their skill with breeding roses in particular was well known. However, in the 16th century, the sudden appearance of magic within the bloodline was surrounded by rumor. Family lore states that the first Rosier of their particular branch with magical prowess was originally a nobleman who, from greed and lust and envy, prayed to the devil to increase his wealth and obtain the affections of a woman who had previously scorned him. The demon, a patron devil of unrequited love and seduction, agreed to gift the Bontecou nobleman with the power necessary to achieve his goals; in return, the demon merely required small sacrifices in his name.

It began small, with enemies of Bontecou dying under mysterious circumstances, to an increasing number of people disappearing altogether. Strange lights had been reported to be shining from the Bontecou estate, and the nobleman himself began acting in an increasingly strange manner, becoming more secretive and temperamental. The nobleman could also be seen tending to a select group of rose bushes and trees; late at night, the servants reported that they witnessed him burying large, lumpy shapes in the ground underneath the roots of the trees and bushes. It seemed pretty coincidental that during this time the roses groomed by the Bontecou family had turned the deepest shade of unnatural blood red. It came to a head when the wife of the Bontecou nobleman began spreading talk of being under an enchantment, and hearing her husband mutter in strange tongues over her head at night. Before the Church could investigate thoroughly, she disappeared as well. The nobleman insisted she went to stay with relatives in Normandy, but the rumors surrounding the nobleman eventually led to excommunication from the Church. Before he could be tried, he packed up his belongings and children and escaped North, eventually settling twenty miles east of Inverness, North Scotland (the children are the source of an even greater mystery, as the nobleman lacked relatives, his wife never became pregnant, nor were there any rumors of the nobleman's infidelity-for all his faults-and the children resembled their father greatly, so they could not have been adopted). After changing the family name to Rosier, in honor of the demon, the former nobleman used his magical abilites to build up his wealth once more.

Evan didn't know whether the stories of demonic worship and devil children were true, but it makes for a fantastic bedtime story, doesn't it? *wink*

Evan Rhys Rosier was born to Dominic Rosier and Isabel Rosier nee Prewett on the Rosier estate near Inverness on December 24, 1958. As the only child, Evan was spoiled ridiculously rotten, and learned from an early age that his exceptional good looks could get him pretty far--from charming his governesses into doing what he wished, to getting gifts and extra affection from his mother. Evan proved to be a deft hand at manipulating the fairer sex; however, his father proved irritatingly immune to his charms. Evan, like many other Pureblood children, was privately tutored in his early childhood; in his case, there was a particular focus on summoning rituals. Whatever was true about the Rosier family, it was pure, unadultered fact that they had a unique skill, even affinity, with summoning magic and creatures.

At twelve (it would have been eleven but he missed the age cut off date...curses!), true to form, Evan was accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and sorted into the Slytherin House. He made fast friends with another Pureblood, Wilkes, and the two could often be seen together stirring up trouble rivaling that of those blasted Gryffindors Potter and Black. He also made friends with Severus Snape, as Evan saw his attitude hilarious, and the other's knowledge of Dark Arts and Potions skills were worthy of respect. Evan would often try to get the other to lighten up, usually to no avail, however. Those two were the the first to neither fear him for his family's reputation and seemed to like him for who he was. For all his bravado, Evan had no friends of his own during childhood as the estate was remote and no one visited the place unless they absolutely had to. It was a point of insecurity for him, and it would remain so for the rest of his life. He looked up to older Slytherins such as Lucius Malfoy who seemed to have no trouble in the social realm. Evan appreciated Wilkes' loyalty and Severus' brutal honesty, and promised himself that he would someday pay them back for it.

In his classes, Evan proved to be intelligent but only in subjects that interested him. He gained the highest marks in Arithmancy and Ancient Runes. The subjects played closely with his interest in summoning magic, and he loved those classes tremendously. He also enjoyed Herbology, although he didn’t advertise it that much. He didn’t do well in Transfiguration, and he wanted to strangle Professor Flitwick more often than not. Evan was also extremely popular with the opposite sex, bouncing from girl to girl--there wasn't anyone he couldn't get that he didn't put his mind to getting. When he graduated Hogwarts, Evan quickly found himself settling down, bored to tears at the lack of challenge in charming women and the prospect of spending the rest of his days as some Ministry official.

Then came Voldemort.

Evan's father was already a staunch supporter of Lord Voldemort's politics, and with the Rosier family's reputation of angelic looks masking devilish tempers, both he and Evan moved up quickly in Voldemort's favor. While Dominic truly believed in Voldemort's agenda, Evan had his doubts despite not having any problems paying lip service to the cause. Besides, tormenting Mudbloods became a hobby, right next to polo. He had nothing against Muggleborns and Half-Bloods; hell, Severus Snape was a half-blood and proved more powerful and clever than many Purebloods, so what was the big deal? Evan only wanted to have fun, live hard and live fast, and he got that with the Death Eaters. Furthermore, once you had Evan's loyalty, you had a hard time losing it. Evan was loyal to his father, and his father was loyal to the Dark Lord; hence, Evan was loyal to the Dark Lord as well.

When Dominic was killed by Aurors, Evan saw red from sheer fury. Voldemort made sure to put that to his advantage, using Evan to lead terrorist attack after terrorist attack, which Evan did so with vengeful glee. He became more resentful at the Ministry, and fought more ferociously than ever, Wilkes close by his side. In late 1980, ten months before Lord Voldemort's defeat at the hands of the infant Harry James Potter, Evan led a raid against an integrated Magical and Muggle village; however, there seemed to be a leak in information, as the Aurors had already evacuated the settlement and were waiting for them to show. A fierce battle erupted, both Auror and Death Eater dying left and right. When Wilkes was killed by Alastor Moody, Evan finally lost it, laughing with abandon as he dueled the more experienced Auror. Evan managed to do extensive damage to the Auror, and even blasted a huge chunk out of Mad-Eye's nose before he was taken down by the Killing Curse.
